TMFOX Global Startup Forum 2016 – Opportunities for Entrepreneurs in the Chinese Market

Due to the global economic slow down and structural adjustments, the regional resources available for entrepreneurs and startups in North America are limited. The sharing of startup resources globally is a trend of necessity, especially in terms of the huge Chinese market. What the entrepreneurs in North America are interested in are:
• How to organize startup resources in China more efficiently?
• What resources can we use?
• How to take full advantage of the capital investment resources in China?
• How to protect intellectual property when doing business in China?
• What can the governments of China do to aid startups from North America?

In order to address these issues, the “Global Startup Forum 2016” has invited the governmental officials from China, the cross-border incubating and investment experts, legal experts and many knowledgeable people to open a dialogue on the subject of Opportunities, Challenges and Key for success in the Chinese market under the circumstances of globalization of startup resources. VEC (Vancouver Economic Commission) Visited TMFOX, International Cooperate Start!

The president of VEC (Vancouver Economic Commission), Mr. Ian McKay and his team visited TMFOX Shenzhen Office in China. Later, VEC and TMFOX had a deep technical conversation about how to build the most efficient cooperative relationship between entrepreneurs in China and in Vancouver Canada region. The main personnel attended the meeting are:

  • President of VEC (Vancouver Economic Commission), Mr. Ian McKay and his team;
  • President of CCIP (China Canada Innocation Park), Mr. William Li;
  • Managing director of TMFOX, Mr. Andy Yu and his cooperate partner teams;
  • Incubating company, Present of BTREE (Shenzhen Btree Industrial Co., Ltd), Mr. Delong Liu;
  • Incubating company, Present of Prosperous, Shenzhen China, Mr. Shouming Liu.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Andy Yu introduced the newest operating model of TMFOX and its overseas expansion strategy to the visitors. He said that “during these 7 years, TMFOX always focuses on absorbing the world’s best leading innovative technologies. During the incubation process, we study the technical advantages and short comings of business in China and the direction of their desired technology upgrading path, then match them with the technology resource pool in Silicon Valley, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Belgium etc. As the primary connection between the North America technology and the Chinese market, TMFOX (Vancouver) plays an important role in meeting the needs of Chinese local company’s industrial upgrading and technological innovations. Meanwhile, based on the different situations of Chinese domestic companies, TMFOX (Vancouver) will matches the resource on the global scale (center in Vancouver, but also include all the important high-tech areas in Canada and the United States) and provides direct incubation support. Also, TMFOX will provides cross-border incubating, which means that after the corresponding technologies have been mature, then we will send them to the relevant Chinese domestic Companies. By using this efficient way, TMFOX can maximize the ability of the Chinese domestic companies in order to fundamentally and effetely improve the capability of product innovation and the industrial upgrade.

Later on, president of VEC, Mr. Ian McKay introduced the capital environment, industrial structure, technical advantages in Vancouver and the work functions of VEC to the China local entrepreneurs. Based on his introduction, VEC is an agency of Vancouver city government in Canada. It is responsible for promoting trade, investment and economic development, providing internal and external business services. As Vancouver’s leading economic development platform, its primary responsibility with the companies are cooperating in technology, digital and multimedia and green technology industries. Meanwhile, VEC becomes the bridge to connect with talents, capital and market data together to establish one of the world’s best recognized ecosystem for entrepreneurs. “We are very interested in clean energy and environmental protection. In this field, China has a very broad market prospects. We hope to develop, find and help the most innovative companies to achieve their rapid growth” said by Mr. Ian McKay.

In order to help VEC to understand further about the characteristics of the industries in Shenzhen and the development of companies incubating in TMFOX’s. TMFOX introduced two incubating companies to VEC during this forum. The first one is Shenzhen Prosperous Industrial Co., Ltd. This company is committed to the development and application of new materials. Its main products including: new bio-based reinforcing filler, bio-based asphalt modifier, touch screen inks, and UV curing agent etc. The main focuses of their products is to address the major environment problems in the world, especially in China. They process the black waste water produced during the paper making process, they can turn waste into treasure. The other company is called Shenzhen Btree Industrial Co., Ltd. This company is the first high-tech company who focuses on anti-static materials and related productions. The company has innovated anti-static fluid, a conductive polymer materials, conductive nano-materials and advanced granulation, coating, composite, blown film, bag molding, and other large-scale production equipment. Especially its new antistatic agent technology has broken through the technology barrier from Japan, United States and Korea, and satisfy the quality needs of electronics, semiconductor, optoelectronics, automotive, food, medical, military, aerospace and other industries.

“After returned to China, I founded two companies, but it is difficult from the beginning. I have to explore all the aspects of product development, technological innovation, and market promotion etc. by myself. However, since I met Mr. Andy Yu, he gave me a lot of new thinking and vision, whether it is technical innovation or capital investment. Through him, I have gained more in-depth understanding not only on the level of capital investment that TMFOX incubation gives, but also on the help it provides in the ideas and solutions at the enterprise technical innovation level. These valuable support are also beneficial to businesses in North American. Therefore, when he said how about building an innovation technology incubator platform in Vancouver; I did not hesitate and decided to work with him together.Because I think this is a very significant and valuable thing to do “said by the president of Innovest Investments Inc. After listening the presentations from TMFOX and two incubating companies, the leader of Asia Pacific Trading Center, Ms. Joan Elangovan expressed a strong interest to one of the projects right way. She said “it is a wise choice to visit TMFOX Incubator today, I was greatly inspired by today’s meeting. There is a great future with TMFOX’s cooperation, no matter it is in financial investment, technical innovation and overseas markets interchange, etc.” Meanwhile, the president of VEC, Mr. Ian McKay also said he is looking forward to the official opening of the TMFOX Vancouver and to start the subsequent joint cooperation.

TMFOX visited University of Washington on life science incubating cooperation

In order to speed up technology incubating partnership and enhance platform communication, Andy Yu, managing partner at TMFOX VETNURE PARTNER visit Comotion Incubator in University of Washington at north part of Seattle.

Ms, Elizabeth Scallon, associate director of CoMOTION Incubator welcomes TMFOX Incubator build a close business relationship with CoMotion at both project to project level and platform to platform level and help interested startups at CoMotion for fundraising and international market, especially mainland China market where TMFOX has built up strong presence. Since CoMotion is responsible for incubating and technology transfer on behalf of University of Washington, CoMotion, she hopes TMFOX could help what startup really want.

TMFOX and CoMotion agree to start with life science emphasis via TMFOX INCUBATOR (VANCUOVER) to other 6 incubators in mainland China after the ground open on July.

TMFOX Incubator visited Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Center

May 19th 2016

Mr. Andy Yu, Mr. Logan Shen and Ms Vicky Ling visited Foresight in Surry today. Mr. Neil Huff, Managing Director of Foresight and Mr. John P. Diack, CEO of Sunpump Solar attended the meeting.
In the meeting, Mr. Neil Huff showed case the history and the operation of Foresight as well as expressed his interests to work with TMFOX Vancouver team. The CEOs of companies introduced their companies and their products to TMFOX team.
After meeting at Foresignt, the team went to North Vancouver to meet with Dr. Saber Miresmaili. Founder of Ecoation, to learn about the interesting innovation by his company.

TMFOX Incubator team visited BCIC (BC Innovation Council) on cross boards incubating coopertation

The TMFox team, headed by Mr. Andy Yu and Ms Vicky Ling visited BCIC office in downtown Vancouver today. The personnel attended the meeting from BCIC side are:
• Mr. Dean Prelazzi, Managing Director of BCIC
• Mr. David Collier, Director of Technology & Innovation Department of BC
Mr. Dean Prelazzi commented that the Global Startup Program, an initiative proposed by TMfox and the Chinese local government, is an interesting concept which may solve an existing problem that Canadian entrepreneurs have when they think of extending their business out of Canada. He would like to hear more details of this program. In the meeting, Mr. Andy Yu shared his experiences on how TMFox helped an US company licensing their technologies to Chinese companies and got the licensing revenue and ownership of the joint venture. Mr. Dean is interested to hear details and get contact information of that US firm as reference.

TMFOX visited VEC (Vancouver Economic Commission)

May 16th, 2016

The managing director of TMFox Mr. Andy Yu and the president of Innovest Investments inc Ms Vicky Ling visited the VSC office in downtown Vancouver. The personnel attended the meeting from the VSC side are:
• Mr. Bryan Buggey, Director of strategic initiatives & Sector Development
• Ms Joan Elangovan, Leader of Asia Pacific Trading Center
• Mr. Sean Elbe, Sector Development Manager attended the meeting.

Both sides introduced their organizations and discussed areas of their common interests. Ms. Joan Elangovan mentioned in the meeting that in Vancouver, 30% of the population are from China and 50% are from Asia. With this unique demographic feature of Vancouver, the Chinese market and the Chinese incubators with strong background and resources are very important to them. Ms. Joan Elangovan is planning to visit TMFOX Shenzhen office in June this year to meet with the local entrepreneurs in the region.
